Loren Dell O'Haver, 80, Sundance, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at Crook County
Memorial Hospital in Sundance.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wedneswday, Oct. 4, at United Methodist Church
in Sundance, with Elder Pat Reilly of REorganized Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter day Saints officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Moriah Cemetery in
Sundance, with full military honors provided by Devils Tower VFW Post 4311 and
American Legion post 45.
He and his twin sister, Loretta Dale Durfee, were born March 25, 1920 at the
George and Mary (Penwell) O'Haver homestead. Loren received his elementary education
at the Black's Flat Rural School. Sometimes, this school was in session eight
months, only in the spring and summer, because of unfavorable weather conditions.
He attended hight school in Sundance at Old Stoney and graduated in 1939. He
played football and was on the Bulldog team when Sundance won the district championship.
He ranched with his parents, worked for other ranchers and helped his neighbors
until June 1944, when he volunteered to serve his country. He received his basic
training at Fort McClellen, Ark. In 1944 he was hipped by boat to the European
Theater, and served under 5A 88 Division. He also served in the Army of Occupation.
He returned to the United STates by boat and received his honorable discharge
in July 1946.
On Dec. 1947, he married Norma Gail Henler. They ranched with his parents until
June 1950. Nine days before their first daughter, Janette Gail was born, they
moved to their own ranch at the foothills of Phiffer Hill. In the fall of 1956,
their second daughter Katherine Dell, was born.
The O'Havers developed a modernized farm/ranch operation, focusing on prime
Hereford and later Herford/Angus cross cattle and outstanding grain and hay
crops. Ill health from emphysema and chronic bronchitis ended his active participation
in farming and ranching in 1997.
Loren belonged to and was active in Devils Tower VFW post 4311, where he held
a lifetime membership. He served four years as commander and won a trip to WAshington,
D.C. He served as chaplain for 25 years.
Loren served on the Buffalo Belle Soil conservation District and won a trip
to Phoenix, Ariz. He also served on the Red WAter Conservation Board. He was
a board member for Farm Home Administration and was active in Rocky Mountain
Farmers Union.
Loren's main interests were his ranch operation, his family, his bowling team,
and his responsibilities to all the organizations he belonged to.
Survivors include his wife, Gail O'Haver, Sundance; two daughters, Janette (Dave)
Heidtke, Baraboo, Wis..and Kathy Wilson, Sundance; twin sister Loretta (Bill)
Durfee, Sundance; and older brother, Merlin O'Haver, Alva; five grandchildren,
Chris, Anne and Susan Hagen, Wisconsin, and Joe and Robert Wilson, Sundance,
one niece; three nephews; and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister and an older brother,
Manford.
All local VFW and American Legion members will be honorary casketbearers, as
well as special friends RAy Buckman, Carl Ericsson, and Ulric Hawken.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to Crook County HOspital
Handicap Door Fund and Sundance Volunteer Fire Department.
Fidler-Robers Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Aug. 24, at his Yma residence.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth O'Haver, Yuma; son, WAyne Dale, Terrell, Texas;
two brothers, Loren O'Haver, Sundance, Wyo; and Merlin O'Haver, Alba, Wyo.;
and sister, Lorretta Durfee, Sundance, Wyo.
Visitation will be from 9a.m. to 9 p.m. SAturday and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday at
Fidler Funeral Chapel in Spearfish, S.D.
Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. Monday at Black Hills National Cemetery
near Sturgis, S.D. Friends are asked to meet at the Spearfish funeral chapel
at 10:45.

SErvices for Lillian O'Haver, 78, Alva, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Hulett Community
Civic Center, with Elder Robert Keeler of Toston, Mich., and of the Reorganized
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, officiating. Burial will be in
Alva Cemetery.
She died early Monday at the ST. Vincent's Hospital at Billings, MOnt. after
a six year illness.
A memorial has been established for Alva Community Church and the cemetery committee
at Alva.
Visitation will be from 9a.m. to 8 p.m. and from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Friday
at Fidler Funeral Chapel at Spearfish, S.D.
She was born Oct. 19, 1913 at Bell, Wy., to Niels Jorgen and Melia Lulu (French)
Nielsen. She grew up on her parents' ranch at Bell and attended rural school
through the eighth grade.
She attended Hulett Hight School for two years, attended Sundance High School
during her junior year, then returned to Hulett where she graduated.
She took one year of normal-school training at Hulett and earned her teaching
certificate. She taught at Morris School on MOrris Divide until she married
George Merlin O'Haver on July 1, 1935, at Deadwood S.D.
After their marriage, they lived on the Adrian Hewes ranch near Sundance. They
later worked on the Nielsen ranch and she taught school at MOnda School.
They lived and worked on the Dillon Ruland Ranch and then moved to a place on
DAnd Creek near Beulah where he worked for the Homestake Lumber and sawmill
division.
They later moved to the O'Haver Ranch near Sundance where Mrs. O'Haver taught
at Black Flat School. In 1946, they bought the Alva General STore from Mr. and
MRs. Dillon Ruland. They operated the store and post office for the next 32
years.
While living there, she taught at the Lame JOnes School near Alva.
She was a member of the REorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints
and the woman's club at the church. For many years, she was a member of Beaver
Creek HOmemaker's Club.
Survivors include her husband, of Alva; a daughter, Dorothey Kaiser of Belle
Fourche, S.D.; two granchildren; a sisiter, Lucile STultz of Denver; a brother,
Eldon Nielsen of Alva; and numberous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.
